flame on tour at Expo 2020 (in 2022)

The new year kicked off in style for us “flames” – with a quick trip to Dubai!

On the agenda: Expo 2020 (which, thanks to Covid, had ended up starting late). Flying off into the sun and warmth in the middle of winter was, honestly, a highlight all on its own. Dubai and the Expo also gave us back something we'd sorely missed over the past two years: contact with international communities, inspiring digital ideas, face-to-face exchange, and the odd wow moment.

After four days, our verdict: good thing we had a whole long day at the Expo – honestly, we could have used a lot more time to see it all. Good thing we were brave enough to go through with the trip. But it's also good to be back – full of motivation and fresh ideas for the whole year ahead!

Impressions & trends for events, trade fairs, spatial concepts and more

With conferences, events and trade fairs slowly becoming a reality again in 2022, we didn't just look at the digital solutions on offer – we also took in the real-world structures, ideas and genuinely brilliant architecture. It's always astonishing what's possible, and how current topics like sustainability, sensor technology (IoT), smart buildings, XR and much more get woven into all kinds of implementations. And it was great to see how different cultures approach these topics – sometimes exactly as you'd expect, and sometimes in a completely surprising way.

Striking structures

Vertical, horizontal, fractal or floating – the structures at the Expo absolutely fascinated all of us. Some were "powered" by nature (sun, wind), others by electronics.

Form & colour

How much we sometimes miss colour in everyday life in Germany, and what a positive effect it has time and again, became clear to us in plenty of the pavilions – and especially after sunset. The LED light shows were simply stunning.

Be bold, be light or be italic – but never be regular

Even though the mantra is always "less text, more visuals – nobody reads anymore" – we clearly still picked up a message or two...

You sometimes have to wonder – what did we actually do before the LED was invented? Yes, really – what?

Interaction

The connection between humans and machines isn't just with us today – it'll stay with us for years to come. Which is exactly why it's so exciting to see what's already possible now, and how much more "tomorrow" will bring. Whether it's about information and orientation, or staging the perfect customer journey, we're looking forward to experiencing a lot more. P.S. “Little Orange” really was very friendly ;-)
